An introduction to the new AA Words volume, a first-ever collection of writings by Denise Scott Brown. Denise is a modern master of the essay as a form of architectural culture, debate and discussion. In addition to being the author of some of the most influential architectural publications of the twentieth century, and her being the partner of one of the most visible and important practises of our time, Denise has, for more than four decades, been committed to writing and publications as a key medium through which ideas relating to cities, architecture and the built environment can be invented, circulate and effect change within her twin worlds of architecture and planning. The book is the latest in the AA Words series, and will be launched at the end of April coinciding with a trip to the AA School by Denise and her long-time partner, co-author and collaborator, Robert Venturi.
